The Vision for 19 Birch Lane
At 19 Birch Lane, our vision is to transform five acres of thoughtfully cultivated gardens in South Thomaston, Maine, into a unique botanical garden destination where nature, beauty, and education come together.
What began as a private garden has grown into a passion for creating a place that inspires discovery, encourages learning, and brings people closer to the natural world. Through carefully designed landscapes, diverse plant collections, and an appreciation for the changing seasons, we are creating gardens that offer something beautiful to experience throughout the year.
Looking toward the future, we envision expanding our gardens, introducing new botanical collections, developing a conservatory and garden education center, and creating opportunities for visitors to explore, learn, and connect. Our goal is to establish a welcoming destination in Midcoast Maine that celebrates horticulture, thoughtful garden design, and the importance of preserving beautiful green spaces for future generations.
More than a collection of gardens, 19 Birch Lane is a growing vision—a place where plants inspire, people gather, and a lasting connection with nature takes root.
Garden. Gather. Grow.
The Gardens Today — A Vision Taking Root
The transformation of 19 Birch Lane into a botanical garden destination is already well underway. Across our five acres in South Thomaston, Maine, thoughtfully designed gardens, winding pathways, and an ever-growing collection of plants are creating a landscape that celebrates the beauty of nature throughout the seasons.
From our David Austin rose gardens and colorful hydrangea collections to more than 120 varieties of irises, beautiful daylilies, dahlias, flowering perennials, and ornamental trees, each garden reflects our passion for horticulture and thoughtful landscape design.
Visitors can discover the beauty of our historic greenhouse, peaceful pond, reflection pool, and distinctive garden spaces, each contributing to the character of 19 Birch Lane. As we continue developing new gardens, expanding our plant collections, and introducing additional landscape features, every season brings new opportunities for discovery and inspiration.
These gardens are more than the foundation of our future botanical destination. They are a living expression of our commitment to creating a place where people can connect with plants, appreciate the natural world, and experience the joy of gardening.
Looking Ahead — The Future of 19 Birch Lane
As 19 Birch Lane continues its transformation into a botanical garden destination in Midcoast Maine, we are looking toward an exciting future filled with new gardens, inspiring spaces, and opportunities to connect people with the natural world.
Our long-term vision includes the development of a beautiful glass conservatory featuring year-round plant collections, an orangery and garden education center designed for workshops and special gatherings, and an Asian-inspired garden offering a peaceful setting for reflection and discovery.
Beyond these planned additions, we envision expanding our botanical collections, creating new garden pathways, and introducing educational programs, seasonal experiences, and opportunities for visitors of all ages to explore the wonders of horticulture.
Each new project will be thoughtfully developed to complement the natural beauty and character of our five-acre property. Our goal is not simply to create more gardens, but to establish a distinctive botanical destination where visitors can experience the changing seasons, discover remarkable plants, and find inspiration to bring into their own gardens.

A Place to Explore, Learn, and Connect.
As our gardens continue to grow, we envision 19 Birch Lane as a place where people can do more than visit. Here, they can explore distinctive plant collections, learn through gardening workshops, and experience the beauty of the natural world with family and friends. We imagine seasonal garden experiences, educational programs, and welcoming spaces that celebrate plants, creativity, and community. Our goal is to create a destination where curiosity is encouraged, learning is hands-on, and every visit offers something new to discover. I'd pair that with a photo of people in the garden, maybe one of your weddings with guests strolling. It reinforces the idea of community and learning.
